General Information

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Renaissance Conference of Southern California, an Affiliate of the Renaissance Society of America, will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, San Marino, California.  Fran Dolan, Professor of English at the University of California, Davis will deliver the RCSC Annual Lecture on Saturday afternoon.

Conference Registration

All conference participants and attendees must register, either in advance or at the conference.  A registration form is printable from this web site.  Conference registration includes admission to the Huntington's gardens and galleries ($15 per day for an adult).  On-site registration and conference materials for pre-registered participants will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2.

Meals

Conference registration includes coffee and pastries in Friends' Hall on Saturday morning, and a reception in honor of our Plenary Speaker at the end of the day.  Lunch may be purchased at the Huntington Garden Restaurant, a self-service facility with both indoor and outdoor seating that features prepared sandwiches and salads, as well as a made-to-order station.

Click Here for a list of alternative hotels near the Huntington, their rates and contact information.  One alternative is The Hampton Inn at 311 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, 7 1/2 miles to the east of San Marino.  Rooms there run just over $100 per night and reservations are available at 626 574-5600, along with many other hotels in the Pasadena area.  There are local restaurants near these hotels.

The hotel is not within walking distance of the Huntington Library; participants who will arrive without an automobile should plan to make taxi arrangements to the Huntington.

Transportation

Conference participants arriving in Southern California for the first time are advised that the Los Angeles area is sprawling and served poorly by public transportation.  For ease of movement and to take full advantage of your time in Southern California, conference attendees should consider renting a car; all of the major car rental firms maintain large fleets in the Los Angeles airports.  Ample free parking is available at the Huntington Library, so you should not be concerned about its availability early on Saturday morning for conference arrival.

Should you need transportation from the airport to the Fuller Guest Center or to the Huntington Library, shuttle services are available at the Los Angeles airport; Super Shuttle can be arranged from the airport, by calling 1-800 BLUE VAN or visiting www.supershuttle.com.

Technological Needs

Conference presenters should be advised that there is no technical support available through RCSC or the Huntington Library, nor are there photocopying facilities.  The Program Board has accommodated audio-visual requests that were received in advance.

Reading privileges at the Huntington Library

Please apply in advance for reading privileges to Reader Services. The Huntington Library, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, CA 91108.  The Library is open to registered readers from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.  See the Huntington website for their on-line catalogue and directions: www.huntington.org.

For further information...

Conference information, the conference program, and registration forms are or will soon be available on-line at www.rcsca.org.  For questions regarding the Annual Conference, please consult the RCSC website or one of the officers of RCSC.  The staff at the Huntington is not able to answer questions or provide any information regarding the RCSC or Annual Conference.
